What are dermal fillers?
Dermal Fillers are used in facial aesthetics to contour, add volume or plump up areas where wrinkles and folds have appeared due to ageing or scarring. Dermal fillers are usually based on Hyaluronic Acid (HA) that naturally occurs in our skin and joints to hydrate and lubricate. Unfortunately we produce less and less of this HA as we age, which leads to dehydration, lack of volume, drooping and deepening of lines and wrinkles. HA binds with water increasing hydration. Fillers are made of a fully degradable complex sugar molecule and have been used around the world for several years now with fantastic results and an outstanding safety record.
What is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in the body that helps to hydrate and add volume to our skin. The body breaks down natural hyaluronic acid in one or two days so it needs to be constantly replaced. As we age this replacement mechanism diminishes so the moisturising and plumping effects of hyaluronic acid decrease.
What can dermal fillers do for me?
Dermal Fillers are clinically proven to hydrate the skin and stimulate collagen production for rejuvenation.Young, healthy-looking skin contains an abundance of a naturally hydrating substance. But as you age, sunlight and other factors can reduce the amount of this substance in your skin. The lack of this substance causes your skin to lose structure and volume, creating unwanted facial wrinkles and folds

How do dermal fillers work?
Dermal fillers are in the form of a clear gel that are injected into the skin to fill or enhance the selected treatment area. They are essentially high cross-linked sugar molecules that draw water and when appropriately administered create structure and hydrate the skin. Volume is restored, facial wrinkles and folds are smoothed flat, lips and mouth area is rejuvenated.
What about the dreaded ‘trout pout’ or over-filled cheeks?
Dr Pai is a strong advocate of the ‘less is more’ philosophy when it comes to facial enhancement. With the conservative doses of dermal fillers that the doctors at SkinLab will use, it’s unlikely for any part of your face to look overdone or fake.
What does the dermal filler treatment entail?
The treatment is performed by injecting the clear gel under your skin. Since it usually takes such a short time, it’s often referred to as a ‘lunchtime procedure’. We use advanced fillers with in-built anesthetic agent, which reduces the pain. Moreover, for added comfort, the client’s skin is numbed before treatment using a topical numbing gel.
What if I don’t like what I see?
One of the biggest advantages of dermal fillers is that an antidote can be injected into the skin, which results in the product dissolving within 24 hours. This gives you the option of reversing the treatment if you aren’t happy with what you see.
How soon will I see a difference?
You’ll see the results as soon as your appointment is over.
How long will my results last?
One of the great advantages of dermal fillers is that the effects are long lasting but not permanent. How long your results will last depends on the following:
- The area you have had treated
- Quality of skin
- Quantity and type of filler used
